The Woman in the Dark is set in a coastal town in South Wales. The town might be fictional, but I took inspiration from some of the beautiful seaside towns on the Heritage coast, such as Barry, Penarth and Porthcawl, looking to draw on the beauty of a seaside town out of season: Empty, windswept beaches, crashing waves, the lonely call of seagulls – so different from the crowds and colour of summer.
